Leadership coach Chris March introduces new coaching program teaching leaders to maximize team members potential

March’s approach to leadership focuses heavily on teaching people how to build professional relationships with those that report to them. He believes this is crucial to help team members maximize their potential.
According to March, the most critical part of coaching is active listening.
“I learnt early that coaching is mostly about listening, so I have spent time developing the art of effective listening,” March said. “Simply put, listening builds more rapport than talking. It builds trust and understanding.”
“People often don’t listen in a conversation; instead, they wait for their turn to talk and are quick to give advice or an opinion. It takes practice, and we need to make a deliberate effort to understand the other side. I’m a big believer that active listening and seeking to understand the person I am listening to are the keys to effective communication in business and life.“
To March, being a successful leader ultimately boils down to understanding how to make meaningful human connections.
“It is important to come across as a human being when you are a leader if you want to get to know the people within your company from top to bottom. Your people are the face of your business,” March said, “get to know them! Remember their names. Know their kids' names and know their partners' names. Understand what motivates them. These personal touches show you care and increase loyalty.“
March believes that once you have built a strong rapport with your employees, you can work effectively and compassionately through adversity with them.
So how do you manage someone who is underperforming? March’s answer is to “allow them to develop their ideas to turn things around, provide support as their leader, and hold them accountable. Doing this rather than telling them what they need to do and reminding them why they aren’t hitting their goals will make them more inclined to achieve success. And that’s where the real growth and development happens.
